Vale Thelma Hedger, A Woman of Character…

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of long-standing Club member Thelma Hedger on Monday 10 August, just a few months short of her 105th birthday. Thelma joined the Club in 1996 and was a much-loved member and past Secretary of the Touring Sub-Club. A former teacher and war widow, she remained active in her church and maintained friendships with Club members and staff even after she entered residential care. Many members will remember attending Thelma’s 100th birthday celebration where the Governor of NSW presented Thelma with a special letter from the Queen!

Recent Events

The Club was pleased to host a number of well-supported events over the past fortnight, with The Cavalcade of History & Fashion High Tea, our ANZAC Day Lunch and Commemorations, and the Hentley Farm Winemaker Lunch all enjoyed by members and many new guests. The Cavalcade of History and Fashion brought the elegance of the 1930s beautifully to life in Cellos and we extend our thanks to Dianne Jardine and her team for an exceptional and very educational presentation. Dilmah Tea also shared the generations of stories behind their fine teas and donated a beautiful gift hamper. We were amazed at the number of prize donations we received for the High Tea from surrounding businesses and encourage you to give them your support. Prize sponsors included Era Magazine, Javad Luxury Silk Fashion, De Lorenzo Haircare, BareWolf, Paul's Menswear and Clueless International. Keep an eye out for our next fashion show which will be an evening event showcasing ‘Cocktail Dresses of the 1950s’.

Touring Group Sub-Club Visit to Rooftop Garden

Did you know that the Club has created a culinary garden on the rooftop? Surrounded by skyscrapers, the Club team, led by Terry Donald, has lovingly built a culinary garden using all recyclable materials. With composting underway and new herbs added daily, the garden is already contributing fresh ingredients which Chef is using in the kitchen. Last week, members of the Touring Group Sub-Club were taken on a special tour of the garden enjoying a glass of bubbles and some glorious Autumn sunshine - a relaxed and memorable afternoon at the Club.

A Warm Welcome Abroad - Reciprocal Clubs - The British Club, Singapore

We were delighted to hear from a Club Member following his recent visit to one of our newest reciprocal clubs, The British Club in Singapore. He recounts, “My partner and I found the staff most welcoming. The location is in a quiet part of the island towards the top of a hill and overlooks the Swiss Club and the Swiss Embassy. In the foyer there were two knights in shining armour, a gift shop and the entrance to ‘The Windsor Arms’ bistro. On the upper floor there is the more formal dining ‘Mountbatten Room’. Both dining areas have view to the Club's swimming pool and distant city skyline, and the food and wines are excellent. The Club also has tennis courts on site. Should our fellow Masonic Club members have spare time on their travels to Singapore, we would recommend a visit”
