Foundation Day Celebrations - A Century in Stone

Last Friday, members and guests gathered in Castlereagh Street to celebrate the Centenary of the NSW Masonic Club’s Foundation Stone Day, marking 100 years since construction began on the building we continue to call home. The morning ceremony was accompanied by the uplifting sound of a brass band in the street, creating a wonderful sense of occasion as members and guests assembled outside the Club’s historic entrance and adding enjoyment to the surrounding cafes. A highlight was the ribbon cutting, conducted by MW Bro B. Khristian (Khris) Albano, Grand Master of the United Grand Lodge of NSW & ACT, together with NSW Masonic Club Patron MW Bro Dr Gregory (Greg) Henry Levenston OAM.

Centenary of the Foundation Stone Day

At 10.30am on Friday 20 February 2026, the NSW Masonic Club will experience a remarkable milestone, commemorating 100 years since the Club’s foundation stones were laid on 20 February 1926. Set into the Castlereagh Street entrance and still visible to members and guests today, the original stones record a defining moment in the Club’s growth in the heart of Sydney. One stone was laid by Most Worshipful Brother John Goulston, Grand Master of the United Grand Lodge of New South Wales, and the other by the Club’s President at the time, Worshipful Brother Francis Hurry Scott. Contemporary accounts describe a large and impressive gathering of Freemasons for a formal stone-laying ceremony conducted with full dignity and tradition, featuring symbolic rites representing plenty, joy and peace, values that continue to reflect the spirit of the Club a century later.
